There are excellent tutorials on creating textures by Robin (Sojourner) Woods at her site inworld as well as on her website. I don’t try to reinvent that wheel here. Instead I will try to provide some tips and tricks to help you use textures better.

Depending on how you do it, applying the same texture to a series of prims has the potential to be a real drag. Slow, tedious work. But wait! There is a way to do it faster!

One of the more irritating things that can happen when you build is discovering you can see the seams where prims join in your build. You have this great, textured wall or floor, but look at it from a certain angle and there’s the seam!

It is very tempting to use high-detail images as textures. After all, they can provide amazing image quality. The problem is, high-detail textures create lag! Understanding how Second Life appears on your computer monitor will help you understand the problem.

The easiest signboard you can build in SL is a simple texture on a single prim. But how do you create a display that shows a series of messages, in a preset sequence, and does not make the viewer wait because your textures take time to resolve? There is a trick to this.
